Washington - A majority of people in Canada, Mexico and five European countries have an unfavourable view of the role U.S. President George W. Bush plays in world affairs, Associated Press polls found. As reported in the Toronto Star.
Only in the United States did a majority of those questioned, 57 per cent, have a positive view of Bush's role.
"Canadians know Bush much better than Europeans but they do not particularly like him better," said Darrell Bricker, president of public affairs polling of Ipsos-Reid in Canada, where two-thirds of those polled had a negative view of Bush's role.
The polls were conducted by Ipsos, an international polling firm, in Britain, Canada, France, Italy, Germany, Mexico, Spain and the United States.
Just more than half of those polled in Mexico and Italy had a negative view of Bush's role. In Britain, the closest U.S. ally in the war in Iraq, two-thirds had a negative view. Three-quarters of those in Spain and 80 per cent in France and Germany had a negative view of Bush's role.
