US v. Afghanistan

On December 6, a botched attack on a suspected Taliban militant in Afghanistan left 10 dead and the suspect away and unharmed. Nine of the dead were children. In the wake of criticism of the attack by the UN and the Afghan government, the military performed an investigation.

And guess what? The military investigated itself and found itself not guilty.
The U.S. military insisted yesterday it followed "appropriate" rules of engagement in a botched December air strike....

A military spokesperson said the probe into the Dec. 6 attack that killed the children concluded the military had followed the rules of war.
How thorough, how complete, how fair was this investigation? They won't tell us. The results are classified "top secret." Intelligence and all that, you know. We are at war, after all. Don't you trust us, you terrorist lover? We know, you'd be happier if the Taliban was still in power.

Of course we trust them. After all, they are, as Marc Anthony said "all honorable men."

Oh, one last thing: Despite having found themselves as pure as new-fallen snow, military officials also said that in the wake of the massacre they modified the rules of engagement. But they won't say how.
