On updates: It's common for bloggers to note they've updated a post if they've changed it in any way; some will even do it for typos and the like. I used to do that, but I don't anymore; it's really a waste of my and the reader's time.
So if on looking back at a post I notice a typo, a grammatical error, or even some garbled syntax, I will likely correct it but I will make no note of it. However, if the post is changed in any material way, if for example I add a fact or a link, or if I remove a fact because I've discovered it was incorrect, I will note it.
A changed post will have the word "Updated" in bold type as the first word of the post. At the end of the post will be what the update was, including, in the event something was deleted, what was deleted and why.
On comments: I welcome comments with the sole proviso that they are actually comments, that is, they have some connection to, some comment on, the issue and/or the post at hand. They don't need to be positive, but they do need to be somehow relevant.
"Comments" that are simply rude remarks or personal attacks on me or any other commenter will be deleted without hesitation as soon as I become aware of them. Under somewhat different but related conditions, I once said that I have "no patience with those who wave the banner of 'free speech' as an excuse to be loosed from any standards of common courtesy or rational discourse." I have not changed my mind.
