In his annual Easter "Urbi et Orbi" (to the city and the world) message, Pope Benedict XVI declared

"[n]othing positive comes from Iraq, torn apart by continual slaughter as the civil population flees,"

and denounced

"the thousand faces of violence which some people attempt to justify in the name of religion."

I believe the official name for the latter is "sectarian violence."
