Double take

A little bit of yin-yang for you: The News-Herald of Panama City, Florida, reports that
[a] Marianna Middle School teacher was suspended after students said he used a racial epithet directed at presidential candidate Barack Obama.
It seems that a seventh-grade social studies teacher named Greg Howard wrote "CHANGE" on the board and turned it into an acronym for "Come Help A Nigger Get Elected."

He was suspended without pay for 10 days, relieved of his football coaching duties, and transferred to the local adult education program. He'll be required to submit a letter of apology to the students and attend diversity and sensitivity training.
"Actions of this nature are inappropriate (and) will not be tolerated by the Jackson County School Board," the [school district's] news release states.
An illustration, I think, both of how far we've come - and of how far we haven't.
