Left Side of the Aisle #72 - Part 1

Good news: "Personhood" petition fails in Colorado

A few years ago, the right wingers of the Colorado Personhood Coalition got a so-called "personhood" question on the statewide ballot. It would have amended the state constitution to ban all abortions, even for rape and incest. It lost by a margin of about 3-1.

Undeterred, a year or two later the coalition again got essentially the same question on the ballot - and again it lost by a roughly 3-1 margin.

Undeterred, they tried again this year. But apparently, this time the response of Coloradans was "What, you again?" This year's version, which not only would ban all abortions but also some fertility treatments along with stem-cell research, didn't even make the ballot. The petition fell nearly 4,000 names short of the required number.

The anti-freedom forces are of course going to appeal and challenge the decision by the Colorado Secretary of State's office. Even if they do somehow manage to get on the ballot - again - early polling has the measure going down to defeat by a 2-1 margin.
