Update #2: Keystone XL pipeline
For our second update, I have several times talked about the Keystone XL pipeline, which if completed will carry polluting tar sands from Canada to Texas to be refined and exported.
The State Department, which was involved because the project crossed a national border, green-lighted the project, saying the environmental impact would be minor.
Now it turns out that the report’s authors were not Department staff but outside contractors with ties to the oil industry and the one that produced the bulk of the report, Environmental Resources Management, has ties to tar sands extraction companies. Fox and henhouse, anyone?
What's more, in 2002 that same outfit, Environmental Resources Management, declared that the then-proposed BP Caspian pipeline was both environmentally and economically sound, just as it has now said about Keystone XL - and that earlier pipeline not only failed to deliver on promised jobs, it has been the site of explosions and oil spills.
Time to drop the farce about, and the hammer on, the Keystone XL pipeline.
